Rush to Marry

Why are Romeo and Juliet in such a rush to get married right when they meet?

Answer this question with a TIQA paragraph.  Your textual evidence can come from any point in the text.  Once you have typed your paragraph, copy and paste it as a comment to this post.

Example Para: Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because that is what people had to do in this culture at this time.  When talking to Juliet about marriage, Lady Capulet says, “ Younger than you,/ Here in Verona, ladies of esteem,/ Are made already mothers” (I, iii, 70-72). Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that other girls in their society are already married and having children, demonstrating the cultural necessity of marriage.  She also guilts Juliet a little by telling her that the people are younger than her, meaning that she should get going with finding someone to marry.

Remember, the Analysis portion of your paragraph explains why and how your evidence proves your topic sentence.  The goal of your sentence: HOW and WHY EXACTLY your quote proves the reason for rushing into marriage.

  1. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because the situation they are currently in is dangerous. When Romeo has revealed himself to Juliet who is expressing her desperation on her balcony she says, “And the place death, considering who thou art,/ If any of my kinsmen find thee here.” (II, ii, 64-65). Juliet is telling Romeo that his presence on the Capulet property could result in death. If Romeo is seen by any Capulet he could be killed. She appreciates his sacrifice to be there for her but is scared of the possible consequences that it could result in.

  2. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because it is dangerous for them to be seeing each other. When Romeo is talking to Juliet on the balcony, Juliet says, “If they do see thee, they will murder thee” (II, ii, 70). Juliet is telling Romeo that if anyone sees them, a Capulet and a Montague seeing each other, bad things will happen or someone might get killed. She wants to marry Romeo so that neither of them will get hurt or in trouble by either of the families.

  4. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because of the family feud that is going on between their families. Juliet says to Romeo, “How camest thou hither,/ tell me,/ and wherefore?/ The orchard walls are high and hard to climb,/ And the place death,/ considering who thou art,/ If any of kinsmen find thee here” (II, ii, 62-65). Juliet is telling Romeo that he can’t be sneaking around to see her anymore because of the family feud. If they got married they wouldn’t have to worry about sneaking around and the family feud would maybe end.

  5. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because of the Feud is between the two families, they are separated by their name, getting married would change Juliet’s name. When Juliet is talking about Romeo she says, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name!/Or, If thou wilt not, but be sworn my love,/And I shall no longer be a Capulet.” (II,ii,34-36). Juliet is saying that her name is the reason her and Romeo can’t be together, but if they are to get married her name would change and technically there wouldn’t be a feud between the two.

  6. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because they can’t be stopped by their family if they get married soon. When Romeo and Juliet are talking on the balcony Juliet says, “ Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow,/ By one that I’ll procure to come to thee”( II, ii, 144-145). Juliet is telling Romeo that if he wants to marry her, they have to do it soon and before their families can stop them. She wants to get married to Romeo before their families find out and stop them.

  7. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because it is dangerous for them to be together with the family feud. At the Capulet's party when Tybalt hears Romeo talking he said to Capulet, “Now, by the stock and honor of my kin, /To strike him dead I hold it not a sin.”(I, v, 56-57) It was dangerous of them to be together because Tybalt is already wanting to kill Romeo because he was at the party. What would happen if he ever found out about their love.

  8. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because being around each other in secret is dangerous. While Romeo and Juliet are talking outside Capulet’s home, Juliet tells Romeo, “And the place death, considering who thou art,/ If any of my kinsmen find thee here” (II, ii, 64-65). Juliet is saying that if Romeo is caught with Juliet on her father’s territory, Capulet’s men will kill Romeo because he’s a Montague. This is a warning that meeting in secret is dangerous, and that one of them is likely to die if they get caught. Getting married would hopefully keep them out of harm from each other's families.

  9. Romeo and Juliet is in a rush to get married because they are in love. In the start of Juliet’s speech she says, “ Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say “Ay”, And will take my word yet if thou swearest/Thou mayst prove false at lovers’ perjuries/They say jove laughs O gentle Romeo, If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully. (1 i 90-94) Juliet is saying that if he loves her back that he would be faithful to her.

Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because they are in love. When Romeo and Juliet are talking, Romeo says “My love as deep; the more I give to thee,”. (II, i, 134). Romeo is saying that his love for her is strong, and he will only give his love to her. There conversation is about how they love each other and getting married. I believe that’s why Juliet and Romeo are in a rush to get married

  11. Example Para: Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to marry because juliet doesn’t want to marry Paris. In the Capulet's house Lady Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris so he can be happy in his life. Lady Capulet says “Marry, that “marry” is the very theme/ I came to talk of. Tell me, daughter Juliet,/How stands your disposition to be married?”(I,iiii,64-66) Lady Capulet talks of how she remember what she was going to say and asks of how is Juliet is in the position to marry Paris.

  12. I believe Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because it’s dangerous to be together. When Romeo is at Juliet's balcony, Juliet tells Romeo “Of they do see thee, they will murder thee.” (II, ii, 70) Juliet is saying that it’s dangerous for him to be there with her and for them to see each other because their families are enemies and they would kill him if they knew.

  13. I think Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because it's dangerous to be together. "If they see thee, they will murder thee." (II, ii, 70) "And the place death, considering who thou art, If any of my kinsmen find thee here." (II, ii, 64-65) These quotes talk about how it's not safe for them to be in love because of their heritage. It also states that the penalty for Romeo, if he was caught, is death. Showing that if Romeo and Juliet get married, their heritage won't matter. (Sorry Mrs Johnson for not being here today, but I had a doctors appointment. I don't know if the formatting was correct.)
