Block 1: Rush to Marry - Comment with your Paragraph (3/30)

Rush to Marry

Why are Romeo and Juliet in such a rush to get married right when they meet?

Answer this question with a TIQA paragraph.  Your textual evidence can come from any point in the text.  Once you have typed your paragraph, copy and paste it as a comment to this post.

Example:
Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because that is what people had to do in this culture at this time.  When talking to Juliet about marriage, Lady Capulet says, “ Younger than you,/ Here in Verona, ladies of esteem,/ Are made already mothers” (I, iii, 70-72). Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that other girls in their society are already married and having children, demonstrating the cultural necessity of marriage.  She also guilts Juliet a little by telling her that the people are younger than her, meaning that she should get going with finding someone to marry.

Remember, the Analysis portion of your paragraph explains why and how your evidence proves your topic sentence.  The goal of your sentence: HOW and WHY EXACTLY your quote proves the reason for rushing into marriage.

  2. Romeo and Juliet are rushing the marriage because of love at first sight. When Juliet responds to Romeo’s long paragraph she instantly falls in love. “Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, but be sworn my love, and I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” (Shakespeare 972) Juliet also agrees with us when she says, “It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden.” (Shakespeare 975) So in the first quote she pretty much states that she loves him, wanting to get married or run off. It again shows love at first sight because she talks about all of this love- and when Romeo responds in a same fashion, she finally comes to her senses. This is the second quote, knowing she had love at first sight but did not want to rush it.

  3. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because Juliet’s mother is increasing pressure on Juliet to get married, preferably to Paris. In Act 1 Scene 3 Juliet’s mother references to Paris saying, “Verona’s summer hath not such a flower.” (I, iii, 78). She is clearly in favor of the “...valiant Paris...” (I, iii, 75), she speaks to Juliet in hopes of getting her to marry as she was a mother at her age. Lady Capulet’s view on Paris is reinforced by the nurse who all but raised Juliet.

  4. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because, they fell in love at first sight of each other Shakespeare shows this by having romeo go to the balcony and say,"Juliet is the sun!" (Act 2 Scene 2 Line 3 and 4) which proves that he truly loves her and wants to marry her.

  5. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because they truly believe they are meant to be together and they are both of age to get married. Now, it seems rash but at the time it really wasn’t that unusual. Their love shows throughout the scene, Juliet even says, “If that thy bent of love be honorable, Thy propose marriage...” (Act 2 Scene 2 line 143) Here she is saying if your love is true, marry me, this was the reasonable thing to do if you found your love at thirteen. Their impulsive teenage minds sped up the process.

  6. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because, Juliet is getting pressured from Lady Capulet to marry Paris, and paris is also pressuring her because she is suppose to get married to Paris soon. Like when lady Capulet asks Juliet How stands your disposition to be married?”

  7. The reason Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to marry is, because Juliet feels pressured by society to marry someone, so if she marries Romeo then the pressure of society will be lifted. Marry, that “marry” is very theme I came to talk of, tell me,doughter Juliet, how stands your disposition to be merried. (I, iiii 64-66) The reason this supports my statment is that Juliets mom is preussering her to get married, because when she was Juliets age she was married.

  8. Romeo and Juliet are rushing to get married because they think their love is true to be together, Romeo compares her as the moon and how more beautiful she is than the moon. He also compares her to the stars, sun, and an angel (Act two scene two page 971)

  9. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to marry because Juliet is being forced to marry Paris but she now wants to be with Romeo. In scene 3 line 70 through 75 Lady Capulet is trying to get Juliet to marry Paris. This is forcing Juliet to marry Romeo faster.

  10. The reason Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married is because they both don’t want the feud getting in the way and Juliet want Romeo to prove his love for her. Juliet says to Romeo when he is at her balcony, “They say Jove laughs. O gentle Romeo, If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully.” (Act 2, Scene 2, lines 94-95) With the feud in the way and Romeo’s undying love for Juliet, the only real option they have is to get married a soon as they can.

  11. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because Juliet’s mom is pressuring her. Juliet’s mom was calling for Juliet to talk to her about getting married. She said, “ Well, think of marriage now. Younger than you, Here in Verona, ladies of esteem, Are made already mothers. By my count, I was your mother much upon these years That you are now a maid. Thus then in brief: The valiant Paris seeks you for his love.” (I, iii, 70-75) My quote proves my point because Lady Capulet was telling Juliet how she was married at Juliet’s age and how many women younger than Juliet are getting married already. When Lady Capulet told her this it kind of pressured Juliet to go out there and get married soon because it’s what her mom and everyone else did.

  12. The reason Romeo and Juliet rush getting married is because the stars determines your fate and romeo knew on that night something was going to happen good or bad know it will still lead to something terrible. But if they were going to get make love they were going to be married first because Juliet was catholic and she thinks it’s the right thing she feels and Romeo does it because he loves her.

  13. Romeo and Juliet are in a rush to get married because Lady Capulet thinks Juliet should rush to get married, but to Paris. If Juliet gets married and has kids then society’s and Lady Capulet’s pressure will be lifted off herself. This pressure to get married is in Act 1, Scene 3.
